INDIAN WELLS, Riverside County — October 25, 2026. Indian Wells plans to replace aging palm trees along Highway 111 during the October–December 2026 period as part of its municipal capital-project program. The city’s official project page says 35 palms were classified in poor condition and 195 in fair condition, prompting a coordinated project rather than piecemeal work.
What does the replacement proposal cover?
The city describes its Highway 111 project as replacing end-of-life palm trees along the well-known corridor. Officials say advancing from a phased approach to concurrent work may allow quantity pricing and address trees identified as potential hazards. The classification numbers describe assessed condition; they do not prove every tree in the two categories has been removed or that all 230 will be replaced on a particular day.
Drivers should follow temporary work-zone signs and check official city notices for any traffic-control dates. The project schedule is a planned window, subject to contracts, weather and other construction conditions. This report does not assert a lane closure unless formally announced.
Community garden changes through early 2027
The city also lists improvements to the Janice Oliphant Community Garden with a project period of August 2026–January 2027. The city says the garden is being renamed for the founder of the Indian Wells Garden Club and that additional garden plots are planned. A fall commemoration was described as part of Indian Wells’ 60th-anniversary events; residents should check whether the ceremony has been assigned a specific date.
Fire station naming and city anniversary
Another municipal project proposes renaming Fire Station No. 55 in honor of Richard Oliphant, described by the city as a former mayor and the city’s first fire chief. The website lists an August 2026–February 2027 project window. A schedule is not proof that ceremonial signs have already been installed or dedicated.
The city’s capital projects directory is the primary reference for up-to-date descriptions and schedules. See Indian Wells News for independent local reporting.
